Spring, long promised renewal of the dead and decaying world
Revealed again in the beauty of fresh blooms on barren trees
The first blades of grass pushing through the hardened earth
Stalks of daffodils and tulips reaching for the warmth of the sun
Bodies turning toward the warmth of longer days
Soaking in the vitality of the early spring sun’s power
Recharging weary souls after the long, cold, dark winter
Color fighting back into the bleached and barren world
Gentle at first, barely noticeable changes as grays turn to greens
Stark white turns to tones of nude and pink and cherry
The brown of death replaced by the fresh brown of fed soil
a cacophony of color on the verge of exploding from every mulch bed
The dormant world of mice and men stirs from its slumber
Apathetic and tired hearts beating in time to a rebirthed Earth
Struggling at first to find the rhythm of a new day
But fighting just the same to breathe in the first days of Spring
